Grant Kirmer Via I

Grant Kirmer Via, I, 85, of Martinsville, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Patrick County on March 12, 1937 to the late Jesse Nash Via and Nannie Lou Bryant Via. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Hancock Via; son-in-law, Jody Joyce; three sisters, Rena Lou Ingram, Patsy Spencer and Nancy Hancock; and three brothers, A. Neal Via, Jesse Owen Via and Clinton Via. Grant loved the Lord and was a member of Amazing Grace Baptist Church. He was retired from Bassett Walker Knitting Company, and drove a truck for Virginia Carolina and Roy Stone Trucking. He enjoyed driving a truck and sharing stories of his travels. He was a great mechanic, working on cars and lawnmowers in his Shade Tree Garage. He loved Bluegrass music, NASCAR races and spending time with his family. He is survived by his daughters, JoAnne V. Patterson (Randy), Sandra V. Joyce and Christa N. Via; son, Grant “G.K.” Via, II (Jen); sisters, Katie Lane, Eunice Roberts and Lennis Pickerel; grandchildren, Julie Patterson, Amanda Lewis, A.J. Joyce, Joshua Joyce and Khi Hopson; a host of nieces and nephews, and other family and friends. The funeral will be Monday, May 16, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Via Cemetery, Heidelelbach School Road, Patrick County, Virginia. Wright Funeral Service and Crematory is serving the family.
