Hazel Hodges Lawson

January 13, 1932 - November 29, 2021

Hazel Lawson (1932-2021) Hazel Marie Hodges Lawson, 89, died at home with family by her side in Bradenton, Florida on November 29, 2021. Loving mother and wife Hazel spent her life working with her husband, raising her family and taking care of their home. Hazel, a gifted seamstress, enjoyed sewing for her five granddaughters when they were young and made phenomenal biscuits and gravy from scratch. Her favorite part of life was being by the side of her best friend and dear husband of 70 years “Pete” Murry Ackers Lawson. Hazel was born on January 13, 1932 in Gilmore, Arkansas. She was one of 13 children. Her family moved to Horse Pasture, VA, where her parents are buried. Hazel grew up in Martinsville, VA, where she met then married her sweetheart in June 1951. The couple moved to Newport News, VA and there they raised their children Diane Lawson Turini and Donald Lawson. Hazel spend her adult life living in both Martinsville, VA and Bradenton, Florida with her husband Pete. Hazel is preceded by her siblings Geraldine Hodges, Clarence Elmer Hodges Jr., Virginia Joyce, Lucy Spraker, Jean Hill, Jasper Hodges, Alvin Hodges and her twin Helen Perdue. Hazel is survived by her husband Pete; her siblings: Jacqueline George, Vivian Harris, James Hodges and Connie Ray Hodges; her children: Diane Turini of Minnesota and Donald Lawson of Sarasota, FL; her grandchildren: Elizabeth Turini Brokaw, Andrea Turini, Casey Lawson, Courtney Lawson and Shelley Lawson Bowman; and her great-grandchildren: Noah and Hunter Lawson and Henry Lawson. A graveside service will be held Saturday, December 4, 2021, at 11:00 A. M. at Roselawn Burial Park. Wright Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family.
