Janet Lorine Spencer Hairston, 73, of Ridgeway, Virginia departed this life on April 24, 2021. A Henry County native, she was born March 4, 1948 to the late Robert Lee Spencer and the late Nannie Spencer Spencer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Willie F., Robert Lee Jr., Cornell and James Daniel “JD” Spencer; five sisters, Natalie Long, Annie “Dot” Spencer, Verna Mae Hairston, Doris BenAvram, and Geraldine Lewis. She graduated from George Washington Carver High School in Henry County, Virginia. She became a member of Christian View Missionary Baptist Church at an early age, where she accepted Christ. She served as a Deaconess, Treasurer of the Missionary Circle, kitchen committee cook, member of the adult choir, and the Intercessory Prayer Group. She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving husband, John “Sonny” Hairston of the home; three loving children; Collette Penn, Emily (Hayward “Tracy”) Jones, and Omar Hairston, all of Martinsville, Virginia; five grandchildren, Franchone Hairston, Mark Stedmond Hairston, Miranda Jones, O’Mara Hairston, and Ebony Martin; three great-grandchildren, Ralph, Elijah and Levi; four sisters, Hazel Spencer, Mary Jane Spencer, Patricia (Doug) Scales, Roxie Scales, all of Spencer, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at Christian View Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Gregory C. Perkins, officitating.
