Virginia Cathleen Adkins, 98, of Chatham, Virginia, passed away Monday, May 9, 2022, at SOVAH Health of Danville. She was born August 25, 1923 in Pittsylvania County to the late William D. Day and Cathleen Roher Day. She had been a housewife and was a member of Callands Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed planting flowers, cooking, farming and canning. She was a missionary at her church, and she loved her family and children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Lee Adkins; daughter, Barbara Ann Adkins; sons, Charlie, Jimmy, David and Richard Adkins; sister, Ruth Jones; brothers, Samuel, William Jr. and John Day; and four grandchildren. Ms. Adkins is survived by her daughters, Virginia Fuller, Frances Wooding (Bernard) and Nancy Penn (Leonard); son, John Alvin Adkins (Louise); sisters, Nancy Long and Helen Edwards; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Sunday, May 15, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Callands Missionary Baptist Church, 1097 Strawberry Road, Chatham, Virginia, with Minister Tony Dillard officiating and Donnell Daye, Eulogist. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the funeral. Burial will follow at Callands Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family would like to thank her caregivers, Charissa Adkins and LaToya Myers, for giving such loving care in her time of need. Wright Funeral Service and Crematory is serving the family.
